Hong Kong police arrested a motorist on suspicion of drug trafficking after intercepting a car outside Chinese University (CUHK) and seizing about HK$112,000 (US$14,362) worth of marijuana products disguised as tea bags.
The 56-year-old woman was also detained for allegedly driving under the influence of an illegal drug after she failed a rapid oral fluid test, according to the force.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Sha Tin special duty squad intercepted her car outside CUHK on Chak Cheung Street at about 7pm on Monday.
In the vehicle, officers found more than 330 grams of suspected cannabis hidden in tea bags along with hemp oil. Police said the haul had an estimated street value of HK$112,000.
After a follow-up investigation, officers picked up the car’s owner, a 41-year-old man, in Tuen Mun and arrested him on suspicion of drug trafficking.
In Hong Kong, trafficking in a dangerous drug carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a HK$5 million fine.

As of Tuesday morning, the two suspects were being held for questioning and had not been charged.
In the first 10 months of last year, police and customs officers seized 1,689kg of cannabis, up 75.6 per cent from 962kg in the same period the year before.
