Fire in Hong Kong flat kills 2 public housing tenants as authorities probe source of blaze

Two public housing tenants died after being pulled from a fire at a flat in northern Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Emergency personnel were sent to Heng Chui House at Tin Heng Estate in Tin Shui Wai at 2.42pm when a 40th-floor flat burst into flames.

A government spokeswoman said more than 120 residents fled from the building before police and firefighters arrived.

According to police, a man and woman were unconscious in the flat when found by firefighters.

“The woman was certified dead at the scene and the man was taken unconscious to Tin Shui Wai Hospital for treatment,” a police spokesman said.

According to the force, the man died in hospital shortly before 4.30pm.
