Hong Kong police have arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his friend after he allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife during a heated argument at a public housing estate on Friday.
The suspected murder occurred at a flat in Hung Ngok House on Choi Hung Estate at about 5pm and was believed to have been the result of financial dispute, according to a press briefing on Saturday from Leung Chi-hang, an assistant district commander at Wong Tai Sin Police Station.
“Our preliminary investigation found that the deceased was stabbed in the chest with a sharp object by someone, which led to his death,” said Leung, who later revealed the weapon was a 13cm knife.
The pair had known each other for about a year, he said, adding that the 59-year-old man was the flat’s occupant at the public housing estate in Ngau Chi Wan.
“The deceased was at the premises at the time to discuss financial matters with the suspect,” Leung said.
But the discussion later turned into an altercation, with the suspect allegedly picking up the knife and stabbing the victim in the chest, he said.
