Hong Kong motorcyclist, 59, dies after head-on collision with double-decker bus
- Rider suffered head injuries and was taken unconscious to hospital, police spokesman says

A 59-year-old motorcyclist has died after a head-on collision between his bike and a KMB double-decker bus in Hong Kong.
Emergency personnel were called when the crash happened on Sau Mau Ping Road near the junction with Shun On Road in Sau Mau Ping shortly before 8am on Tuesday.
An initial investigation indicated that the motorbike was seen travelling in a zigzag pattern before crossing into the opposite lane and slamming into the bus, according to a source.
“The rider suffered head injuries and he was taken unconscious to hospital,” a police spokesman said.
He said the motorcyclist later died at United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong.
Officers from the Kowloon East traffic unit are investigating the cause of the accident. Police also appealed to witnesses and anyone with information to contact officers at 3661 0277.
It was the second fatal accident involving a motorcycle in a week.
Last Wednesday, a pillion passenger died and a motorcyclist was injured when their bike was sandwiched between a delivery van and a truck in a three-vehicle pile-up in Ngau Tau Kok. Police arrested the truck driver, 43, on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and driving with a suspended licence and without third-party insurance.

In the first six months of this year, 41 people died in as many road traffic accidents across the city. In 2021, there were 97 victims in 94 fatal crashes.
Separately, another motorcyclist and his pillion passenger escaped serious injuries when their bike crossed into the opposite lane and slammed into a police vehicle on Peak Road at 3.19am on Tuesday.
The man, 22, and his female passenger, 18, suffered minor injuries. Both were treated by paramedics at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.
The motorcyclist failed a breathalyser test and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, according to the force. He was released on bail pending further investigation.
