Hong Kong police launch manhunt after HK$1 million raid by knife-wielding robbers
- Two men, aged 38 and 30, robbed after they went to party room to discuss yacht sale
- Police later arrest the younger man for an alleged role in the robbery
Hong Kong police arrested a man and launched manhunt for five others after they snatched HK$1 million (US$128,000) from a victim who was discussing a yacht sale deal at a party room in the city’s Central financial district.
Two men aged 37 and 30 went to the party room in a building on Wellington Street to discuss the sale of the boat at about 4.30pm on Friday, a police source said.
But five non-Chinese men raided the room and threatened the pair with knives before they tied them up, the source added.
The gangsters took the older man’s mobile phone and forced him to release a password before he transferred HK$1 million in cash from his account.

The pair managed to untie themselves and went downstairs to report the robbery to police.
But during an interview with the pair, the younger man was arrested on suspicion that he had played a role in the hold-up.
The Central district crime squad is handling the case.
It was the city’s second high-profile robbery inside 24 hours.
Two men fled with HK$200,000 and seven Rolex watches worth HK$1.22 million from a watch shop in a Yau Ma Tei shopping centre after threatening a shop owner, 44, with knives.
The incident happened at about 6pm on Tuesday.
