Five suspected triad members are among six Hongkongers arrested in connection with a spate of vandalism cases that targeted facilities used by Shenzhen-based electric-vehicle maker BYD, police have said.

The five men and one woman were picked up by anti-triad officers in a series of raids in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun on Thursday and Friday, the force said.

Officers also impounded three cars believed to have been used during the vandalism spree that hit three showrooms and a service centre on Monday morning.

A force insider said police were still looking for the owners of the three impounded vehicles and a fourth car.

Acting Superintendent Auyeung Tak, of police’s New Territories North crime unit, said there was no evidence to suggest the suspects had deliberately targeted “the mainland-brand automobile company involved”. He did not name BYD during the press briefing.
