Hong Kong hiker found dead on hillside at The Peak hours after losing contact with wife

  • Source says nothing suspicious found in the case, while police confirm autopsy to be conducted
  • British man, 35, had left home on Wednesday evening on a hike before he went missing

The body of a hiker was found on a hillside at The Peak on Thursday, hours after his wife reported his disappearance.

The British man, 35, also a Hong Kong resident, was reported missing at about 1am after failing to return home on Conduit Road in the Mid-Levels.

He had last sent a message to his wife shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, saying he had gone hiking at The Peak, according to a source familiar with the case.

Surveillance footage showed the man leaving his home in sportswear just before 5.30pm, the source said.

His wife had used the location app “Find My iPhone”, to track down her husband, detecting his signal near Lugard Road at The Peak. Firefighters and police were then activated.

At about 8.30am, the victim was found dead on a slope at the junction of Old Peak Road and Tregunter Path, according to the force.

The source said an initial investigation found nothing suspicious and officers from the miscellaneous unit would compile a death report.

A police spokesman said an autopsy would be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
