Hong Kong police have arrested a 28-year-old man after seizing HK$3.1 million (US$396,524) worth of illegal drugs in a Kowloon flat allegedly used for the production of crack cocaine.
Inspector Tam Nga-ling of the Tsuen Wan special duties squad on Friday said intelligence indicated the Cheung Sha Wan flat had been operating as a drug manufacturing and storage facility for about a month before police shut it down.
Officers, acting on intelligence, raided the flat in a private housing estate on Sham Shing Road at around 3pm on Wednesday.

“Police seized 2,600 grams (91.7 ounces) of suspected cocaine and crack cocaine along with manufacturing and packaging equipment inside the residential flat,” Tam said.
She added that the seized items included baking soda, electric stoves, cooking pots and electronic scales, as well as many plastic bags.
“The estimated street value of the narcotics seized in this operation exceeded HK$3.1 million,” the inspector said, adding the confiscated drugs were intended for entertainment venues in the West Kowloon region.
Officers arrested the Hong Kong resident on suspicion of trafficking in drugs and manufacturing a dangerous drug – offences punishable by up to life in prison and a HK$5 million fine.
