Babysitter, 33, arrested in Hong Kong for suspected child abuse after 9-month-old girl falls into coma with blood clot on brain

Hong Kong police have arrested a 33-year-old babysitter in connection with the suspected abuse of a nine-month-old girl who fell into a coma in hospital.

Police on Saturday said Tuen Mun Hospital made a report at 8.18pm the previous evening, suspecting child abuse after the baby suffered a blood clot on the brain and fell into a coma.

“After preliminary investigations, we believe the baby had been subject to maltreatment while in the care of the babysitter,” a police spokesman said.

“Police investigations are still going on.”

The woman, surnamed Fung, was arrested on Saturday for suspected child abuse.

The Hospital Authority said the baby was in a critical condition.
