Hong Kong police arrest 16-year-old boy on suspicion of attacking father with knife after being woken up for school

Hong Kong police have arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly attacked his father with a fruit knife after being woken up for school.
The alleged attack occurred at the family’s home in Sau Yuen House at Chuk Yuen South Estate in Wong Tai Sin at around 7.45am on Monday.
“Initial investigations suggested that the father woke the boy up to go to school, but the teenager expressed his unwillingness to attend,” a source familiar with the case said.
The source said that after the father returned to his bedroom, the son later entered and attacked him with a fruit knife. The teenager called police following the attack.
The father, 44, sustained cuts to his right cheek, right leg and left hand, according to the force. He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.
The teenager, a Form Two student, was arrested at the scene. Although the boy was unharmed, he was also brought to the same hospital for examination.
Another source revealed that the boy had a poor relationship with his unemployed father as he was unhappy with his gambling habits and neglect of the family.
Police are treating the incident as a wounding case. Detectives from the Wong Tai Sin criminal investigation unit are handling the case.
Last year, police handled 1,235 domestic violence crime reports, an increase of 9.5 per cent from 1,128 cases logged in 2022.
