Hong Kong police have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of HK$3.6 million (US$459,800) from a mainland Chinese traveller at a pedestrian underpass in the New Territories.
Chief Inspector Law Like-him of the New Territories North regional crime unit on Tuesday said the suspect, a 45-year-old man, was apprehended outside a block of flats on Sham Shui Po’s Fuk Wing Street on Sunday afternoon, four days after the hold-up carried out by three men.
Law said about HK$56,000 in cash was found on the suspect and at his nearby flat.

“Records discovered on his mobile phone revealed substantial transfers amounting to about HK$660,000 to bank accounts in Bangladesh,” he said.
“Police have grounds to believe that the perpetrators had swiftly transferred the stolen funds to their hometown.”
According to police, the suspect is a recognisance form holder, a temporary identification document that allows bearers to stay in the city.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the force was still searching for at least two other men in connection with the robbery.
