Hong Kong police were searching for a gang of men who battered a suspected triad member in an early morning attack at a private housing estate car park on Tuesday.

A source familiar with the case said the 33-year-old man, thought to be a 14K triad member, was attacked by three black-clad men armed with poles and suffered serious injuries after he parked his car and got out, accompanied by his girlfriend.

The insider said the assailants, all wearing black face masks, fled in a black delivery van, driven by a fourth man, after the assault.

Security personnel called police and emergency services personnel found the victim unconscious with injuries to his black, arms and legs.

The victim was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in Lai Chi Kok and the source said he was being treated in the intensive care unit.

The victim’s girlfriend, 26, was uninjured.

The attack happened in the Yi Hong Street car park at the Riviera Gardens housing estate in Tsuen Wan in the New Territories at about 3.50am.

“Due to the ongoing treatment of the victim, further investigation into the motive of the attack cannot be conducted at this time,” the source said.

He added that officers were checking surveillance camera footage for evidence.

Detectives from the New Territories South anti-triad squad are investigating the case.

Police last year dealt with 2,334 reports of triad-related crimes across the city, an 8.6 per cent drop on the 2, 554 cases logged in 2022.
