Hong Kong police are investigating after partial human remains were found floating in the waters off Hung Hom.

The force received a report at 9.54am on Sunday of a humanlike object floating about five to 10 metres (16 to 33 feet) from the Hung Hom ferry pier.

Officers covered the remains, which had decomposed, with a tent after personnel from the Fire Services Department brought them ashore.

An initial investigation showed the remains were part of an individual’s body from the pelvis to the knee, the force said.

But no age or gender had been determined and further examinations would be conducted, police said.
