Male resident of Hong Kong drug treatment centre found dead on beach after suspected fall from cliff

A 59-year-old resident of a drug addiction treatment centre in Hong Kong’s Sai Kung has been found dead on a nearby beach.

Police said they received a report of a man with multiple injuries lying on rocks on a beach on Town Island at 8.49am on Sunday. He was certified dead at the scene.

The force said a preliminary investigation indicated the man, surnamed Lai, lost his footing during a stroll and fell more than 10 metres (33 feet) off a cliff.

Officers are investigating the cause of death, which will be determined after an autopsy.

Police confirmed the man was a recovering drug addict attending the Dawn Island Gospel Drug Addiction Treatment Centre on the island.
