A British man suspected to have lost his footing and fallen about six metres (19.7 feet) down a slope was found dead in a Hong Kong alley on Thursday.

A source familiar with the case said the smell of alcohol was detected on the 58-year-old man, prompting police to investigate whether intoxication had played a role in the accident.

Emergency personnel were alerted to the case when a passer-by discovered the unresponsive man in the alley on Village Terrace in Happy Valley soon after 7am, according to the force.
