Hong Kong court remands student, 20, 4 years over alleged role in 2019-20 unrest

A Hong Kong court has remanded a 20-year-old student in custody more than four years after his alleged participation in an unlawful assembly at a shopping centre during anti-government protests of 2019-20.
Isaac Lee appeared at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court for on Tuesday charged with taking part in an unlawful assembly in the district’s APM shopping centre when he was just 16.
Lee is alleged to have joined the demonstration on June 30, 2020, along with several other people.
He was not required to enter a plea and the prosecution asked the court for an adjournment to next week so footage from security cameras could be gathered.
Chief Magistrate So Wai-tak adjourned the case until July 23.
Another new case linked to the social unrest was called last Thursday.
The five men, aged between 21 to 31, were charged with rioting in relation to a police siege of Polytechnic University in Hung Hom between November 14 and 20, 2019.
