Hong Kong police have issued an alert over a fake website that pretends to be the force’s in a bid to fool them into providing personal information.
The public was told not to access the site in a warning posted on the force’s Facebook page on Tuesday night.
“If you have previously provided personal information to such a website, please report it to police immediately,” the force said.
The fake website may direct users to inquire about the wanted criminals tracking system, submit funds for investigation, or to access their accounts securely.
A police source said the fake website was designed to trick people into revealing personal information, including bank account details.

Police in April issued a scam alert and warned that fraudsters impersonating officers from the force’s Anti-Deception Coordination Centre had sent messages to people which accused them of involvement in illegal activities such as money laundering.
The targets were asked for their bank account transaction records and personal information as part of what was claimed to be a police investigation.
The scammers also sent images of bogus police warrant cards in an effort to gain the recipients’ trust.
The force told the public that “even if a caller knows your personal information, it does not mean that he is a real police officer, because scammers can obtain citizens’ personal information through illegal means”.
It emphasised that legitimate police officers would never ask for bank account passwords or instruct people to transfer money to designated bank accounts.
The police service added officers would never send photos of their warrant cards through social media platforms.
The number of online scams in the city rose by less than 1 per cent in the first five months of the year compared with the same period in 2023, but financial losses jumped by 37 per cent to HK$2.2 billion (US$282 million).
Police logged 13,097 online fraud reports between January and May, an increase of 113 cases compared with the 12,984 cases in the same period last year.
The amount lost to scammers was also up on the HK$1.61 billion stolen over the same period in 2023.
