Hong Kong police have launched a citywide search for a man and a woman who abandoned a car on railway tracks in the New Territories early on Monday.
Officers were called in at around 1.30am after MTR Corporation staff spotted that the black car had been left at On Ting Light Rail stop in Tuen Mun.
A source familiar with the case said surveillance camera footage showed the car being driven onto the tracks before a man and a woman got out and fled the scene.
The insider said the pair appeared to be in their thirties.
The man was wearing a black shirt, black shorts and a pair of flip flops, the source said. The woman was dressed in a black vest, grey trousers and a pair of white sports shoes.
He said the car was towed away before the Light Rail service began, and that no one was injured and no property damaged in the incident.
The source said the driver and owner of the vehicle had not been located.
Police are investigating whether the car was stolen. Detectives from Tuen Mun criminal investigation unit are following up on the case.
Separately, a viral photo circulating online shows a couple trespassing on Light Rail tracks to take selfies, sparking a wave of criticism from internet users who lashed out at their behaviour for ignoring their and others’ safety.

The photo shows a bespectacled man taking a picture with his right hand as the woman holds his left arm, while they stand on tracks at a Light Rail stop.
Some internet users said the couple had violated MTR rules while others warned that their behaviour could paralyse the Light Rail system.
In response, the MTR Corporation said it could only confirm the location in the photo was Siu Hong station in Tuen Mun, but it could not verify the source of the image or when it was taken.
The rail operator warned that trespassers could face a maximum fine of HK$5,000 (US$640) under MTR by-laws. It said their behaviour could pose a danger to themselves, passengers and the operation of the rail system.
