Teen star of Hong Kong documentary on DSE exams fined HK$3,000 for shoplifting at Don Don Donki
- Tang Ngai-hong, 18, notably absent from earlier film premiere, apologises to family, producers and audience on Instagram after theft conviction

An 18-year-old student made famous by a popular Hong Kong web series and documentary about secondary school public exams has apologised after he was fined for shoplifting at a discount chain store.
Tang Ngai-hong was convicted of theft on Monday at Kwun Tong Court, with Magistrate Betty Lau Suk-han handing him a HK$3,000 fine (US$385).
Court documents showed Tang had admitted under police caution that he had stolen items from a Don Don Donki outlet “out of greed”.
On the evening of May 9, Tang walked out of the Japanese chain store in Amoy Plaza in Kowloon Bay with items without paying, triggering the store’s anti-theft alarm.
He was found carrying a yellow reusable bag from the store containing 17 items worth nearly HK$700. These included a pack of beef, eggs, apples, instant noodles and two cans of soda.
In an Instagram post on Monday night, Tang apologised to his family and producers of the documentary, as well as to the public.
