Hong Kong police arrest 2, seize weapons cache with smoke bombs and air guns in flat raid

Force seizes eight smoke grenades, six air rifles, eight air pistols, extendable baton, pair of handcuffs, knife and bogus police warrant card.

Hong Kong police have arrested two people and seized a cache of weapons including smoke bombs, air guns and a retractable baton during a raid on a flat in downtown Kowloon.

The force said on Thursday eight smoke grenades, six air rifles, eight air pistols, an extendable baton, a pair of handcuffs, a knife and a bogus police warrant card were confiscated at the Hung Hom premises the previous day.

Officers arrested a man, 39, and his girlfriend, 47, inside the flat, according to police.

The pair were detained on suspicion of possessing imitation firearms, offensive weapons and dangerous goods, as well as a forged document.

In Hong Kong, imitation firearms can refer to model and toy guns, air guns or guns used in war games. Possession of imitation firearms is punishable by up to two years in jail.
