Keith Yip promoted to deputy commissioner of police in Hong Kong
Appointment made weeks after Joe Chow, who previously held the post, was named new police commissioner
Keith Yip Wan-lung, who was previously director of crime and security of Hong Kong police, has been promoted to deputy commissioner for operations, filling the position vacated by the force’s new chief.
Joining the force in 1991 as an inspector, Yip has mainly worked in the anti-crime stream throughout his career, amassing a wealth of experience in the field of criminal investigation.
According to the force, the veteran officer has worked in various posts relating to criminal intelligence, serious and organised crime investigations, and policymaking. He was also seconded to the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyon, France, between 2013 and 2014.
Yip was promoted to senior superintendent in 2014 and chief superintendent three years later. In 2020, he became assistant commissioner and took up the reins of the crime wing.
He was further elevated to senior assistant commissioner and became director of crime and security in 2022.
