Hong Kong fugitive Anna Kwok’s father remanded in custody in assets case
Anna Kwok’s brother also arrested in case related to wanted activist’s insurance policy

The father of a wanted Hong Kong activist has been remanded in custody after appearing in court for allegedly handling the funds or financial assets of an absconder, in the first such prosecution under the domestic national security law.
Merchant Kwok Yin-sang, 68, was brought to West Kowloon Court on Friday afternoon after national security police charged him with attempting to deal with assets belonging to his US-based daughter, Anna Kwok Fung-yee.
A police source said one of Anna Kwok’s brothers was also arrested during an operation on April 30. He was granted bail pending further investigation.
Defence counsel Steven Kwan Man-wai told the court the key issue was whether the defendant was handling his own assets or his daughter’s.
A court document showed that the funds or assets in question were related to withdrawing cash from a life and personal accident insurance policy with AIA International under Anna Kwok’s name.
The Post learned that the amount involved was about HK$110,000. But whether Kwok Yin-sang or his daughter had made policy payments would be investigated.
