Hong Kong teen arrested for alleged drug trafficking after friend, 16, dies
Police say death believed to be linked to use of ‘space oil’; secondary school student with triad background being detained

A Hong Kong secondary school student has been arrested in connection with drug trafficking following the death of his 16-year-old friend, which is suspected to be related to the use of the narcotic “space oil”.
Police said on Saturday that the pair had consumed the drug together.
“We believed that before the victim died, he had consumed the drug ‘space oil’ with another 17-year-old boy. Police had locked onto the identity of this 17-year-old and successfully conducted an arrest operation yesterday evening,” Chief Inspector Chan Chi-leung said.
“Police also suspect that the cause that led to the death of the 16-year-old is related to the consumption of ‘space oil’, although the actual cause of death remains to be confirmed by an autopsy.”
Officers arrested the 17-year-old on Friday, a day after his friend was found unconscious by his mother at their home in Heng Fa Chuen, Chai Wan, and later died at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
Chan said the arrested 17-year-old, a secondary school student with a triad background, was believed to have brought the drugs to the 16-year-old’s home.
