2 arrested as Hong Kong police find 44.5kg of ketamine hidden in storage units
Two local men, aged 23 and 30, were arrested, with 178 packs of drugs found in two separate storage units
Hong Kong police have arrested two men on suspicion of drug trafficking after finding 44.5kg of suspected ketamine worth HK$20 million hidden in subdivided factory units.
Inspector Ng Ka-wai of the police force’s narcotics bureau said on Saturday that officers had stopped and searched the two local men, aged 23 and 30, the previous day, which led to the discovery of 178 packs of suspected ketamine in two separate storage units.
“Our investigations suggest that the drug syndicate behind this lured in people with money to act as storage unit managers and drug delivery workers,” Ng said.
Officers first stopped the 23-year-old suspect outside a subdivided unit in a factory building in Kwai Chung. After bringing the man to the unit for a further search, officers discovered 60 packs of suspected ketamine, each weighing 250 grams, inside. The man was then arrested.
“After our in-depth investigation, we arrested another man at a nearby factory building,” Ng said.
The amount of monetary reward given is still under investigation, the Post has learned.
