A suspect with a triad background arrested for drug trafficking has been on the run since fleeing from North District Hospital on Monday, with Hong Kong police urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police said that the 18-year-old escaped from the hospital in Sheung Shui at around 5.45pm on Monday. He was admitted last Saturday after being arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and various driving offences.

A source familiar with the matter identified the suspect as Forest Tang, allegedly an active member of the Wo Shing Wo triad group in Yuen Long.

The pair were discovered by patrolling officers as they attempted to get into another car after their vehicle crashed into a pillar.

The force described the teenager as about 1.75 metres (5.74 feet) tall, with a slim build and short brown hair. When fleeing the hospital, he wore black and white checkered trousers, black trainers and was holding a purple patient’s shirt.
