Hong Kong police arrest Russian woman over Tesla car attack, brandishing knife

Police say woman was reported to be hitting car at about 6am in Tsim Sha Tsui and had also snatched knife from nearby stall

Hong Kong police have arrested a Russian woman on suspicion of damaging a private car and brandishing a knife in Tsim Sha Tsui, with an online video showing her stopping the vehicle in the middle of the road.

Police said they received a report at 6.05am on Saturday that the woman had been hitting the front of a private car, causing scratches on it, before snatching a knife from a nearby newspaper stall.

“The woman was arrested near the Star Ferry pier at 6.33am for criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon,” a police spokesman said.

The alleged attack took place on a section of Nathan Road outside Mirador Mansion.

A video circulating online shows the woman sitting on Nathan Road before rising and throwing an object resembling a smartphone towards a Tesla car. Drivers nearby shout “Stop!” and “Call the police!” multiple times as she approaches the Tesla.

The woman proceeds to walk towards the driver’s side of the car and attempts to open the door.
