Preliminary investigation suggests operation of anchor windlass ignited gas leaking from batteries stored in forehold compartment

Six men have been injured in an explosion aboard a Marine Department vessel moored at Stonecutters Island in Hong Kong.
According to police, the blast occurred at about 10.35am on Monday.
The Marine Department said one of its vessels was undergoing an annual inspection when a minor explosion occurred in the forehold, releasing plumes of white smoke.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene, and the six men were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.
Three of the injured were government crew members and the others were outsourced contractors, according to the department.
It added that four of the men had been discharged from hospital, and the remaining two would continue to undergo medical observation.
