Hong Kong police’s bomb squad has been called in to investigate a suspicious object discovered in Quarry Bay, with a source saying it was likely to be “mud, a rock or concrete”.
The force was alerted at 4.52pm on Thursday to a suspicious object discovered on Pan Hoi Street in Quarry Bay.
“The explosive ordnance disposal bureau has been summoned to investigate the object,” a spokesman said.
A source said the object was not a bomb. “It could be mud, a rock or concrete - something of no value,” the insider said.

Another source said the object was about 1.5 metres (4.9 feet) long, with a diameter of around 50cm (19.7 inches).
A section of Pan Hoi Street leading to King’s Road has been blocked off to facilitate investigations. A nearby pedestrian path has also been affected.
“Vehicles cannot drive onto King’s Road from the street for the time being,” police said.
In September last year, a wartime bomb was unearthed in the same neighbourhood, triggering the evacuation of about 6,000 residents overnight. The ordnance was defused after a nine-hour effort.
