The 68-year-old man was crossing Man Yue Street outside Summit Building when the accident happened at about 9.15am.

“He was trapped and had to be freed by firemen,” a police spokesman said. “He was semi-conscious when he was taken to hospital.”

From July 17 to July 27, four women and two men, aged between 46 and 88, died in six separate traffic accidents across the city.

Latest police figures show 66 people died in 65 traffic accidents in the first six months of this year. Thirty-nine people died in the same period last year.

Separately, a 23-year-old man was fighting for his life after he was knocked unconscious by a double-decker bus in Wong Tai Sin shortly after midnight.

He was knocked down by the Kowloon Motor Bus vehicle in Po Kong Village Road at about 12.30am.

A government spokesman said the man was in a critical condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Police said the bus driver, 52, passed a breathalyser test. The Kowloon East traffic unit is investigating the case.
