A securities company director told a friend of his nightclub hostess girlfriend who vanished four years ago that she had gone out to have fun, the High Court heard on Monday.

Tong Man-lin told the court that Ivan Chan Man-sum, 42, told her not to worry about Chun Ka-yee, 33, even if Tong and other friends had lost contact with the hostess for more than a month.

"He told me there was no need to worry about it. She might just go out for fun," Tong recalled. She contacted Chan in November 2011.

Chan is facing one count of murder. He is accused of killing Chun at her home in Amoy Gardens, Kowloon Bay, on October 6, 2011. He denies the charge.

Tong said she stayed in Chun's flat between September 30 and October 3 that year. She said she felt Chun was unhappy and drank red wine and beer every night.

On October 2, Chun said her boyfriend would visit. She was afraid that she would quarrel with him so she wanted Tong to go out for a while. Tong saw Chan enter the flat by himself.
