DSC boss Hui Ming-shun and his wife left Hong Kong on Sunday – a day before the retail chain collapsed – a police source said yesterday, citing immigration records.

The pair are now wanted by police, the source said, after five suppliers complained that the company had ordered a large quantity of goods despite being on the verge of closing down. The cases involve some HK$8 million.

Meanwhile representative of the collapsed retailer's staff also filed a report with police yesterday after unidentified people were seen carting furniture away from the company's warehouse in Yuen Long on Wednesday.

Cherlyn Ma, DSC's customer services manager, said it was unclear how much furniture had been taken, but the products stored inside the warehouse were valued at about HK$1 million.

"Some of our colleagues said those people had already taken away some products. But since we are now in the process of pursuing the company [for unpaid wages], those goods can be considered staff property," Ma said outside police headquarters in Wan Chai before making the report.

"We can't let that happen."

On Monday, hundreds of DSC staff went to work as usual only to find all 14 stores had closed, leaving hundreds of workers, suppliers and customers in limbo.
