A French traveller heading out of the city jumped to his death in the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport last night, leaving behind a suicide note citing relationship problems.

According to police, airport security guards found the 55-year-old man lying face down and unconscious on a platform for driverless trains taking passengers to and from boarding gates.

It is believed the man, who was supposed to take a flight back home, plunged to his death from several floors above the platform. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police found a suicide note in his bag saying he was emotionally troubled by relationship problems. They did not find anything to suggest foul play.
