About 300 workers were evacuated from a 37-storey building under construction in Aberdeen during a fire that broke out on the roof this morning.

No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out at the construction site on Heung Yip Road at 9.20am, according to the police and Fire Services Department.

Preliminary checks found nothing suspicious, a department spokesman said.

A police source familiar with the case also said: “An initial investigation indicated workers were carrying out welding work on the roof of the building.

“We were told that sparks from the welding work probably ignited insulation boards nearby.”
