Police have issued a sketch of a middle-aged man wanted for injuring a 31-year-old woman with a sharp object during a mysterious attack in Aberdeen on Monday.

The Western district crime squad is investigating the motive behind the attack. Police made a public appeal today for information to locate the culprit. Witnesses or anyone with information should contact officers on 2859 4210, 2859 4211 or 9460 0504, according to police.

The attacker is a Chinese man of 1.65 metres to 1.67 metres tall and is thought to be aged between 40 and 50. He is short-haired and has a thin build.

The man was wearing black-rimmed glasses, a white short-sleeved shirt and dark trousers at the time of the attack at about 8.45am on Monday.

A police spokeswoman said initial investigation indicated the victim did not know the culprit.

The woman was attacked from behind as she was walking on a footbridge linking Tin Wan Estate and Hung Fuk Court off Tin Wan Street.

“The culprit grabbed the woman around her neck from behind and then used an [unknown] sharp object to injure her,” police said in a statement.

He fled on foot without robbing her. A male passer-by, 40, alerted police.

The woman sustained mouth and forehead injuries and was in stable condition when she was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam.

Police are treating the case as “wounding”.
