A German trader accused of stealing a camera at a race walking competition on Sunday has pleaded not guilty in a Hong Kong court.

Niklas Segner, 23, denied one count of theft at Eastern Court today for stealing a Canon lens, a Sony video camera and a tripod belonging to video production company Cinevision Top Choice on September 13.

The charge was read to the defendant in his native German. He is accused of taking the camera equipment on Murray Road in Central.

Prosecutor Vincent Siu said two witnesses would be called and there would be video evidence.

“The video [camera] was set up by the media which was capturing the scene,” Siu said, adding that a race walking competition was taking place there at the time.
