Rave review: Hong Kong-based former boss of domestic helper accused of molesting boy in her care praises maid for her work

Indecent assault trial involving eight-year-old boy receives a statement of support from the man who most recently employed the Filipino national

A domestic worker accused of molesting an eight-year-old boy in her care multiple times over three years during her employment was praised by a different past employer for her good work, a court heard on Thursday.

The former employer, who submitted a statement in support of the 45-year-old Filipino domestic worker on trial at District Court, wrote that the maid took good care of his children.

He stated: “She performed all her duties well.”

“I wished her all the best for her employment in the future,” wrote the man, whose 13-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter were looked after by the woman between 2013 and 2015.

The maid earlier pleaded not guilty to three counts of indecent assault.

Prosecutors alleged that between 2011 and 2013 she molested the boy of another family employing her at the time.

The alleged intimate acts included sexual intercourse with the boy, although the woman told the court on Wednesday she was a lesbian. The identities of the people involved in this case cannot be disclosed due to legal reasons.

The woman began to serve the employer who on Thursday submitted the statement subsequent to leaving the family now laying the allegations against her.

In his letter of support, the employer emphasised that he only let the woman go from her job with him because her work visa could not be extended due to the present criminal prosecution.

The court heard earlier that, on a day in 2011, the woman suddenly packed up her things and told the boy she would no longer look after him.

After the boy urged her not to leave, the woman then allegedly dragged the boy to his room, took off his pants, and molested him, the court previously heard. Similar incidents allegedly followed.

The allegations came to light when the boy eventually spoke with his mother about the maid after receiving sex education at primary school last year.

The case continues on Friday before Judge Johnny Chan Jong-herng.
