Wilson Fung Wing-yip broke his silence in a public statement on Facebook on Saturday evening after his wife, Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, was seen leaving home carrying luggage, while not wearing her wedding ring, on Friday.

“I am deeply sorry for the disturbance the incident has brought to my wife and my family,” he said.

Wilson Fung said he had never told his wife about “any of the dealing” between him and Cheyenne Chan, sole owner of Wiseson Limited, the other party in a property deal with Betty Fung being investigated by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Chan is also a shareholder of Sky Shuttle and the sister of Macau tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun’s third wife.

“Regarding the property transaction, my wife was not aware of the identity of the shareholder of the Hong Kong registered company of the other side before the transaction,” Wilson Fung said.
