Police may offer reward in case involving murder of right of abode seeker in 2001
Parents meet senior police officers to discuss the death of their son, who died in a dispute over noise inside a restaurant
Parents of a right of abode seeker murdered at a restaurant in Quarry Bay almost 15 years ago are hopeful that the crime can be solved as senior police officers are considering offering a reward for information on the case.
This emerged after Tsoi Sai-tung and his wife, Ng Kam-fa, had their first meeting with four senior police officers, including the one in charge of the case, at the police headquarters on Monday.
The couple lost their son, Tsoi Bing-hung, 22, on August 22, 2001 after a dispute he and his friends had with two diners over loud talking at a restaurant at Yick Cheong Building on King’s Road escalated into a bloody knife attack.
Tsoi was said to have slipped and fallen during the conflict. He suffered bleeding around his brain. A friend, Choi Wing-lok, 29, suffered multiple wounds.
The case was classified at the time as murder and wounding with intent.
Two men were previously charged with Tsoi’s murder in 2004 and 2012, but both charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
