Emergency workers scour country park for 45-year-old Hong Kong woman with dementia
Chan Wai-lan went missing on walk with elderly mother in Shing Mun Country Park

More than 100 emergency workers continued their second day of searching for a 45-year-old dementia patient who went missing while on a morning walk with her elderly mother on Sunday.
At around 9.30am on Monday, about 50 police officers, including Police Tactical Unit personnel with a tracker dog, were deployed to Shing Mun Country Park to search for Chan Wai-lan.
Officers carrying Chan’s photograph were seen speaking to hikers. Emergency workers also combed hillsides and searched drainage channels, but found no trace of her. As of midday, Chan had not been located, according to the fire department.
Tens of police and fire officers and Civil Aid Service personnel had already searched fruitlessly until daybreak since the previous day.
Chan was reported missing by her 70-year-old mother at about 9.30am on Sunday after she ran away from the latter while walking near Shing Mun Reservoir in the park.
“I asked her not to walk too fast, but she still kept walking fast. I failed to catch up and lost her,” Chan’s mother said.
