Hong Kong victim of brutal German train attack wakes from coma, but condition still severe
Edmund Au Yeung Chi-kin suffered severe head trauma in the terrorist axe attack a month ago and doctors are now closely monitoring his condition
A Hongkonger who was severely injured in a brutal terror attack on a train in Germany came out of a coma on Friday, but was still fighting for his life.
A month after the axe assault took place, the medical team for 31-year-old Edmund Au Yeung Chi-kin at the University Hospital of Wuerzburg said on Friday morning that they had taken him out of an artificial coma.
“The patient woke up under close and intensive observation,” said a spokesman for the hospital.
“The risk of complications remains substantial. He will remain in an intensive care unit for the next several days and the situation remains life threatening.”
The hospital expected a long period of rehabilitation as his condition would be unclear for the next few weeks.
