Cyclist in critical condition after Shau Kei Wan crash

A cyclist was fighting for his life in hospital after he apparently lost control of his bicycle and crashed into a concrete barrier in Shau Kei Wan on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called after the man, surnamed Tai, 46, was found lying unconscious near his bicycle outside Shau Kei Wan Jockey Club Clinic on the westbound lane of the sloping Chai Wan Road shortly before 5.45am.

“The man was bleeding from the head and had lost consciousness,” a police spokeswoman said.

The rider was taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where he was in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, no identification documents were found on the cyclist, but officers later established his identity.

Officers from the Hong Kong Island Traffic Unit are investigating the cause of the accident.
