Both were sent to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong in a conscious state. Police said the man was arrested for attempted murder and detained for questioning.

At about 1am on Saturday, police got a call from the man’s 32-year-old wife, who said she had stepped out from the couple’s flat on Tsui Ping South Estate in Kwun Tong.

She said she detected a strong smell of gas. The main door of the flat was locked from the inside.

Police arrived shortly thereafter and firefighters smashed open the door. They found the man and the boy lying on the floor of the sitting room.
