Hongkonger arrested after allegedly trying to kill himself and three-month-old son in flat
Police say wife called from outside locked unit after detecting strong smell of gas

A 34-year-old Hongkonger allegedly attempted to kill himself and his three-month-old son by loosening the gas tube of the stove at their home in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
Both were sent to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong in a conscious state. Police said the man was arrested for attempted murder and detained for questioning.
At about 1am on Saturday, police got a call from the man’s 32-year-old wife, who said she had stepped out from the couple’s flat on Tsui Ping South Estate in Kwun Tong.
She said she detected a strong smell of gas. The main door of the flat was locked from the inside.
Police arrived shortly thereafter and firefighters smashed open the door. They found the man and the boy lying on the floor of the sitting room.
The incident was being treated as an “attempted murder and attempted suicide”. Police said an investigation by the District Crime Squad of Kwun Tong District was underway.
