Double-decker mows down railings at busy Hong Kong junction, injuring female passer-by

Male passenger also hurt; both taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries

A Citybus double-decker careered out of control and mowed down a stretch of metal railings that in turn apparently hit a female passer-by at a busy junction in Yau Ma Tei.

The bus, which was on route E23, running from Tsz Wan Shan to the airport, was travelling along Jordan Road when the crash happened shortly before 12.45pm on Tuesday.

At the junction with Shanghai Street, it damaged the railings and mounted the pavement.

A female passer-by with a minor leg injury was seen sitting on the pavement while waiting for emergency crew.

“Initial information showed a passer-by and a bus passenger suffered minor injuries in the incident, and they were taken conscious to hospital for treatment,” a police spokeswoman said.

The passer-by and the passenger, a man, were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Officers from the Kowloon West traffic unit are investigating the cause of the accident.
