A kitchen worker allegedly put a drunk man in a chokehold and punched him on his head five times in a street fight before the man fell on the ground and died nine days later, the High Court heard on Wednesday.

Lam Kwok-keung, 35, pleaded not guilty to one count of manslaughter.

On the first day of his trial, the court heard that Lam had a quarrel with Poon Chi-chiu outside a restaurant in North Point’s Tsat Tsz Mui Road on October 13, 2014.

Video footage of the incident filmed by a passer-by at the time was played during the trial, showing Poon’s head hitting the ground after the fight.

Tsang Chiu-chun, an eyewitness, testified that he had heard the two men engage in name-calling.
