A young secondary school teacher is likely to face a jail term after admitting having sexual intercourse and indecently assaulting three underage pupils while dating two of them. The 31-year-old, who was not named in the High Court on Thursday, pleaded guilty to five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and three of indecent assault. Mr Justice Andrew Chan Hing-wai was told that the teacher was first approached by a girl of 14 – identified as Z in court – in his chemistry class to go out for a meal on March 1, 2014. He took her to his home where they talked, hugged, kissed and after she confessed that she liked him. A month later, they rented a room at a guest house on Lamma Island, where they engaged in intimate sexual behaviour. Z did not stay overnight, but she returned with a condom the next day and the pair had sexual intercourse. They continued their sexual relations at Z’s home and a guest house in Mui Wo, using contraception such as condoms and pills, until May last year. Four months later, he told another pupil – a 15-year-old girl identified as X – that he had separated from his girlfriend and was trying to mend the relationship. X told him not to be upset while at the same time she grew to like him. The teacher later asked her out and on their second date they began a relationship. On July 18 last year they went to watch a film in a cinema when the teacher, to X’s shock, slipped his hands into her underwear. She suggested they break up and told her friend Y, who was also 15, about the incident. The court heard that the teacher started seeing Y in the same month, inviting her to his home to watch a film. He allegedly kissed and molested her to her discomfort when she paid him another visit. Prosecutors said that on September 12 last year the teacher asked Y to “give him her first time” and went on to have sexual intercourse with her despite knowing she was a Christian and was frightened by his request. The case came to light two weeks later when the teacher suggested breaking up with X, who reported him to another teacher on the same day. Unlawful sexual intercourse with an underaged girl is punishable by five years’ imprisonment. An impact assessment report on Z read out in court revealed that she still believed she was his girlfriend and that she would wait for him. Sentencing was adjourned until November 21 while psychiatric and psychological reports on the teacher are prepared.
