Packing heat? Hong Kong customs seizes firearms airmailed from Manila
Suspicious parcels detected during routine cargo screening at airport
A pistol, two magazines and other gun parts were found concealed on Wednesday in electrical appliances airmailed to Hong Kong from the Philippines, security sources said.
Initial investigation showed that the parcels carrying electrical appliances were addressed to the Kowloon office of a logistics company for the consignee to pick up and included the residential address of the collector in Yuen Long, the Post has learnt.
“Officers went to the Yuen Long address, but found it did not exist,” a source said.
The haul was discovered when the parcels, arrived from Manila, were inspected by staff of Aviation Security Company during a routine cargo shipment screening at the airport’s Asia Airfreight Terminal at about 5pm Wednesday.
Security personnel alerted Customs officers, who in turn notified police.
