Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Wednesday after he posted a story on an online forum claiming to have detained and sexually abused his underage “part-time girlfriend”. Officers arrested the man, surnamed Lai, at his Cheung Sha Wan flat at 7pm on suspicion of accessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent and wasteful employment of the police. “The force received several reports on Wednesday saying someone had posted articles and many pictures on an online forum on December 15. The girl in the pictures was suspected to have been assaulted and detained illegally,” a police spokesman said. “But after a thorough investigation, we believe such incidents did not take place.” According to the posts, the man had been mad at his “part-time girlfriend” for refusing to perform sexual acts and provide nude pictures after receiving money. She was shivering a lot and started to ramble. So I thought maybe I should stop One online post The man then forced the girl to his apartment, saying he would otherwise inform her parents and school about her “side job”. The story came accompanied by details of sexual abuse allegedly carried out on the girl and pictures which showed a girl covering her face and handcuffed. “She was shivering a lot and started to ramble. So I thought maybe I should stop,” one post read. The writer claimed in later posts that the story had been made up, but readers left comments saying someone should call the police as the scenarios seemed real and serious. A police source close to the investigation said the girl in the pictures was believed to be Lai’s real girlfriend, and that the photos had been taken with her consent. “We are investigating if the story was really made up and will seek legal advice on how to handle the case,” the source said. “Even if the story is fake, the writer caused a disturbance among the public and therefore it could be a wasteful deployment of police.” Lai was released on bail pending further investigations.
