Hong Kong police are searching for a bearded man who was thought to have raped a 17-year-old girl during her night out celebrating the arrival of 2017 in the city’s Lan Kwai Fong entertainment hub in Central. The teenage girl was said to have been drunk when she was taken to a toilet, a source said, and raped early Sunday. The source said the girl was alone at the time of the attack and that she had been approached by a young non-Chinese man at a pub in the popular nightlife area. It was understood she had been partying with schoolmates and friends in the pub. The case came to light when the girl told her elder sister what happened and filed a police report on Monday. The source said the victim did not know the suspect, whom she said had a beard and short hair. The suspect was also described as between 20 and 30 years old, around 1.7 metres tall, and of thin build. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a long-sleeved striped sweater. Officers from the Central district crime squad were investigating the case, which was classified as rape. No one has yet been arrested. Police figures show reports of rape in the city dropped year-on-year in the first 10 months of last year by 12 per cent to 51. There were 70 reports for the whole of 2015.
