“The deceased was found near the window inside a bedroom,” Tsuen Wan fire station commander Wong Kee-kiu said.

Initial investigations showed the deceased, surnamed Lau, lived alone in the flat.

Police and fire department personnel are looking into whether there was anything suspicious about the 45-minute fire that broke out in the eighth-floor unit at Yiu Yam House in On Yam Estate shortly before 8.30am.

Wong said the fire department had set up a special task force to investigate the cause of the blaze.
