Update | Missing Hong Kong boy, 10, found after police search
Ho Yau-yip left Hong Kong Student Aid Society’s Island Hostel on Lantau on Sunday
Police have located 10-year-old Ho Yau-yip, who went missing earlier this week after running away from a care home on Lantau.
The boy was found in a restaurant on Tin Shui Road Tin Shui Wai in the small hours of Thursday. He sustained no injuries and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for examination. No suspicious circumstances were found.
On Sunday, Yau-yip ran away from Hong Kong Student Aid Society’s Island Hostel at Shek Pik, where he had lived for the past six months.
The hostel staff alerted Lantau police while the mother said her son might have headed towards the Kwai Fong area, Langham Place in Mong Kok, Olympian City in Tai Kok Tsui, Sheung Shui or Tin Shui Wai – all locations that he is familiar with.
She said her son was reluctant to return to the dormitory during recent trips back to his home in Tin Shui Wai. Staff at the hostel also said he had wanted to go home and missed his mother.
Founded in 1965 at Shek Pik, the hostel was the first boy’s home set up by the society for children with emotional and behavioural problems. It is now home to 63 boys aged between seven and 14.
People with dyslexia suffer from reading difficulties and problems identifying speech sounds.
